Restaurant marketing on social media: where the link actually works

One page, four platforms, one question: where do you put the link so that a hungry person can book a table? On three of the four, the answer is not the place where most restaurants put it.

The one rule: every platform has one place where the link works

You can write the best post of your life. If the link sits in the wrong place, nobody can tap it. Every platform decides for you where a link is clickable, and the rules are different on each one. Here is where each of them works, checked on 25 August 2026.

PlatformWhere the link worksWhere it does not work
InstagramThe bio, and the Link sticker in storiesThe text of a post: it is not tappable
FacebookThe post: the link is clickable and stays thereStories: personal profiles have no link sticker
TikTokOne link, in the bio onlyAnywhere else
GoogleThe reservations field on your business profileThere is no post here: it is a field you fill in

Restaurant marketing social media, platform by platform

Instagram

Where the link works

Two places, and only two: the link in your bio, and the Link sticker you put inside a story.

Where it does not work

The link written in the text of a post. It shows up as plain text, people cannot tap it, and almost nobody types an address by hand.

  1. 1Put your booking link in the bio, once. It stays there for everyone who opens your profile.
  2. 2In every story about tonight, add the Link sticker with the same address.
  3. 3In the text of the post, do not write the address. Write where to find it: the link is in the bio.

The Link sticker is open to every account since 2021. There is no minimum number of followers: the old limit of 10,000 does not exist any more.

Facebook

Where the link works

The post. On Facebook a link inside a post is clickable, and it stays there: someone who finds that post in six months can still book from it.

Where it does not work

Stories. Facebook has no link sticker like the one on Instagram, and personal profiles do not have one at all.

  1. 1Put the booking link inside the post itself, not only in a comment.
  2. 2Do not count on the story: on Facebook, the thing that works is the post.
  3. 3Post what people look for later: your opening days, the new menu, the evenings you run.

TikTok

TikTok restaurant marketing

Where the link works

One link, in the bio. TikTok gives you nothing else.

Where it does not work

Everything else. Not in the video, not in the caption.

  1. 1Switch the account to Business. With a Business account the bio link field is there straight away, even with zero followers.
  2. 2With a personal account you need 1,000 followers before the field appears.
  3. 3Write the address starting with https:// . TikTok does not add it for you, and without it the link does not work.

Google

The one place where people are already looking for a table

Where the link works

Your business profile on Google has a reservations field. It is the only channel on this page where the person is already searching for somewhere to eat, instead of scrolling.

Where it does not work

There is no post to write here. It is a field you fill in once.

  1. 1Open your business profile and put your booking link in the reservations field.
  2. 2It shows next to your opening hours and your reviews, which is where people decide.
How bookings from Google work

Restaurant marketing best practices, short version

  • One address, everywhere. The same link in the Instagram bio, in the Facebook post, in the TikTok bio and on your Google profile.
  • Write the address in full, starting with https:// . On TikTok it is required, everywhere else it saves you a broken link.
  • Say out loud where the link is. On Instagram you have to tell people to look in the bio.
  • Try every link from your own phone, logged out, once a month. A link that leads nowhere costs more than a post you never wrote.

And the link itself? It should open a booking, not a phone number

Everything on this page is there to bring a person one tap away from a table. That last tap is the booking page. With mee-table the link opens your own booking widget: the guest picks the day, the time and how many they are, and the booking is in your book before they put the phone down. The same address for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Google.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put a clickable link in the text of an Instagram post?

No. In the text the address shows as plain text and nobody can tap it. The two places that work are the bio and the Link sticker in stories.

Do I need 10,000 followers for the Link sticker?

No. That limit is gone since 2021. Every account can put the Link sticker in a story.

Why can I not see the link field on TikTok?

With a personal account the field appears at 1,000 followers. With a Business account it is there straight away, even at zero followers.

Is it worth posting Facebook stories to share the link?

Personal profiles on Facebook have no link sticker. Put the link in the post: it is clickable and it stays.

How many links can I have on TikTok?

One, in the bio. Choose it well: it should be the page where a person books.
